Not a spare seat could be found at the Stibbard Methodist Church Centre on Sunday 12th February for an inspiring act of worship during which Malcolm Cook was commissioned by both Stibbard and Great Ryburgh Methodist Churches to serve as a Lay Pastoral worker. The worship was led by the minister of the church, the Reverend Andrew King, who spoke in his message on the theme “the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” (Matthew 9 verse 37).

None of us will escape being bombarded with information and I guess “spin” as we approach the General Election on Thursday 8th June, which may have taken us by surprise when it was called. Many leaflets have been posted to us, boards have been erected outside peoples' homes, the news each night bombards us with something new each party aims to do which is severely rebuffed by their rivals, and the debates whether there will be TV debates or meetings held locally with our candidates have helped to guide us in our intentions.

This January, I went to Sri Lanka with my parents. Although this doesn’t sound like it’s anything out of the ordinary, for me, it was a momentous occasion. Despite having lived there in 2001-2002, I had never been to Sri Lanka with my Father and I had never been to the north because of the civil war.

One of the joys of moving is that you find hidden treasure – things you’d forgotten all about. The other day I found hidden treasure in the shape of a bookmark, and I thought I’d share the words on it with you: it says “Prayer is the place where burdens change shoulders” and I’ve thought a lot about those words since I found the bookmark.
